Mother Nutria Maintains Her Puppy Dry On Her Tummy
Nature digital photographer Suzi Eszterhas, 40, found the adorable pair of southerly sea otters swimming in Monterey Bay, California.
The mother otter raised the cub out of the water and placed him on her belly to maintain him warm and dry. The loving mother also blew air right into the puppy’s fur to dry it. Ms. Eszterhas said that she was surprised to see the otters come close to where she was standing.
He saw how the mother left her son drifting alone in the water. Young otters have a native layer of fur that helps them float unaided while their mother searches for little animals listed below the surface.
” In some cases she would swim to the dock and leave her puppy floating on the surface of the water right before me while she searched for food.”
” She did this several times; she made me seem like a sitter. She was lovable and it likewise showed how vulnerable and credible wild animals can be. ‘
There are almost 3,000 sea otters living along the California coast, all of them descendants of a colony of 50 otters found in 1938.
