Dylan McCay and Emily Roberts found Acklin the Goldendoodle abandoned on the side of an Arkansas road on Oct. 31.
An Arkansas couple has made a significant sacrifice to help a dog in need, using their wedding savings to cover the cost of medical treatment for a Goldendoodle they found severely injured.
Dylan McCay and his fiancée, Emily Roberts, made the decision after discovering the dog abandoned on the side of a road.
The couple’s decision came after reading a Facebook post on October 31 about the injured dog. McCay drove to the location, where he found the Goldendoodle, later named Acklin, had been struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run. McCay quickly realized the severity of her condition and rushed to help.
According to McCay and Roberts, the dog had been left in the rain, shivering and covered in blood. Her back legs appeared broken, and she was struggling to breathe. McCay immediately gathered towels and blankets to provide comfort and took her to Greenbrier Animal Hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, veterinarians discovered Acklin had fractured both femurs and expressed concern about the possibility of infection due to her exposure to the rain.
With no microchip found, the couple realized that there was no known owner to cover the expenses, leaving them with the responsibility for her care.
