If you are a follower of fantasy movies you might be satisfied to learn that animals that look dragons do exist!
Fortunately for us, there is an animal that appears to come right out of a fantasy movie in the form of a bird, and best of all, it is very much real!
Meet the Great Eared Nightjar
The fantastic eared nightjar (Lyncornis macrotis) is found living in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. A nocturnal bird, they flit through the woodland under the cover of darkness. Besides their special appearance, one more unique point they do is build their nest on the forest floor. This allows their chicks to utilize their well-camouflaged look amongst all the dried leaves.
The fantastic eared nightjar is the largest species in the family in terms of size, which can range from 31 to 41 cm (12 to 16 in).
Males weigh an average of 131 g (4.6 oz) and women weigh an average of 151 g (5.3 oz), looking very similar in appearance.
This bird might quickly have flown right out of a Harry Potter movie, bringing to life the fantasy world many of us like. Although there are other types of nightjar, none look quite as special as the fantastic eared ones. This bird quite just is one of a kind.
Their subtle brownish hues enable them to blend with their environments in perfect harmony and their beady eyes just add to their adorableness.
