Sea Sheep? This Adorable Sea Slug Eats A Lot Algae It Can Photosynthesize
What’s fascinating about the small cute animal which can grow up to 5mm in size and could be found near Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, is that they are among the only sea animals on the planet that can perform photosynthesis (the others all come from the sacoglossa sea slug clade).
When these weird pets eat algae, they suck out the chloroplasts and integrate them right into their own bodies in a process called kleptoplasty.
This procedure, which or else can only be executed by single-celled microorganisms, basically makes them solar-powered slugs!
