You can see the eight-legged animal transforming from light to dark colors while hanging upside down.

The incredible clip aired in the documentary Octopus: Making Contact by PBS leading researchers to believe it’s dreaming.

Marine biologist David Scheel discussed: “If she is dreaming, this is a dramatic moment. You can nearly tell the body changes and tell the dream.”

” She sees a crab and her color begins to change a little, then she transforms all dark, octopuses will do that when they leave the bottom.”

” This is a camouflage like she’s just subdued a crab and she’s just going to sit there and eat it, and she doesn’t want anyone to see her.”

” It’s an extremely unusual behavior to see the color come and go on her mantle like that, just to be able to see all the different color patterns blinking one after the other, you do not typically see that when an animal’s resting. This truly is fascinating.”
